How to Detect Bed Bugs
- Telltale signs are: dots or specks on the headboard, bedframe, mattress and bed spread. These dots are in fact bed bugs feces.
- Spots can also be found in other locations where bed bugs can be found, such as edges of carpets, wooden surfaces, upholstered furniture and within electric outlets
- Rusty or reddish blood smears on bed sheets or mattresses from crushing an engorged bed bug.
- Cast bed bug skins may be found on mattress
- Bed bugs also have a distinctive odor, like that rotton coconuts. Severe infestations can also cause an offensive odor from the oily liquid the bugs emit.
- Pest control companies sometimes use dogs to sniff out bed bugs and find out where they are hiding
